Sturgeon Treatments

Safe treatments for your sturgeon Choosing the right treatment is vital, there are so many treatments on the market these days all claiming to do this that and the other however very few mention being safe for sturgeon. This section contains only safe sturgeon treatments.
If you do need to treat your sturgeon then make sure any treatment you use does not contain any of the following.

Copper sulphate ( chemical element CuSo4 ).
Treatments containing Formalin / formaldehyde.
Potassium permanganate.

A general rule of thumb is to never use a treatment that states not to be used with Golden Orfe (Leciscus sp.) or Rudd (Scardinius reythrophathalmus). Salt treatment for sturgeon

Common cooking salt ( NOT TABLE SALT)  is a very useful addition to a koi keepers 'medical' cabinet as it has
numerous beneficial effects on fish. Not least of these is it's ability to counteract parasitic activity and promote healing.
Some koi keepers have a low level of salt in their ponds permanently, whilst others may add a low level over the winter months to help the fish survive the colder temperatures.
Other uses for salt include high strength anti-parasitic dips, the reduction of ammonia and nitrite poisoning.

Wound seal sturgeon treatment

Wound Sealwound, seal,
A thick paste for sealing open wounds preventing osmotic shock and further stress. Contains antiseptics and Aloe Vera to speed up the healing process. Wound seal should be used in conjunction with Ulcer-Swab as a combined treatment regime.

 

 

 

Ulcer Swab sturgeon treatment

Ulcer Swab
Cleans and disinfects wounded and damaged skin. A powerful yet soothing antiseptic solution for wounds and ulcer treatment. that Should be used in conjuction with with Wound Seal to cover and seal the affected area if open to water penetration.

Melafix sturgeon treatment

Melafix is a liquid based natural treatment that heals open wounds & abrasions, treats fin and tail rot, eye cloud, mouth fungus and promotes regrowth of damaged fin rays & tissue. Melafix will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH, or discolor water. It is safe for reef aquariums and live plants in fresh or salt water.
Can be used daily for 7 days at a rate of 5ml per 38 litres of water.

Safe for use with Sturgeon.

Malachite Green 7 sturgeon treatment

M Green 7 is a pond treatment for persistent fungus and external parasite infections.
Treats fungus caused by Saprolengnia and protozoan parasites in pond fish.

Recommended dosage:- A course of treatment over 7 applications. Use when fish have white fluffy fungus growth on the mouth, body or are flashing against rocks etc.

10ml treats 700 litres
2.5 litres treats 7 x 25,000 litres
Add one dose every week for 7 weeks. Switch off UV until 5 days after the final dose has been added.

Safe to use with Sturgeon, Orfe and Rudd

malachite green sturgeon treatment

Malachite Green is an effective liquid chemical that is effective against whitespot, flukes, slime disease ( Costia, Trichodina, Gyrodactylus and Dactylogyrus ). Symptoms for the above include flicking against rocks or the pond/ tank sides, gasping at the surface, cloudy eyes, raised scales and inflamed gills.

Malachite green can be used with sturgeon. However care has to be taken not to use a pre mixed bottle of M & F which is malachite and formalin. ( Formalin is not safe to use with sturgeon).

Dosage is 10ml per 200 gallons and can be repeated once per week for 4 weeks. In extreme cases increase the dose to 10ml per 100 gallons.

Can be used as a bath for a maximum 30 minutes at a dosage of 10ml per 50 gallons.
